Spirit Lake's annual Labor Day festivities kicked off a day early on Sunday, as the community gathered at The Big Park to celebrate with a car show and a bustling marketplace. The event, organized by the Spirit Lake Community Coalition, aimed to make this year's celebration bigger and better than ever before.

Over 70 classic cars were on display, ranging from hot rods and muscle cars to the unique and unexpected. Among the standouts were the beautifully restored Volkswagen Buses and Bugs brought in by Danny and Susan Baptista."We try to be different," Danny joked. "Everyone here has hot rods." The Baptistas' vehicles certainly stood out, including a tangerine-colored Bus that was rescued from a field and brought back to life through meticulous restoration.The car show wasn't just a display of automotive artistry; it was a celebration of the community's shared passion for classic cars. Onlookers marveled at the pristine interiors and gleaming exteriors, each vehicle a testament to the dedication and skill of its owners.

While the car show and marketplace were thriving, one familiar tradition was notably absent – the Spirit Lake Labor Day Parade, known as the "smallest parade in the world." According to the Spirit Lake Community Coalition, the parade had simply become too small to sustain, leading to its temporary suspension."I was kind of bummed there was no parade this year," said community member Brynn Hymas. "It was a cute tradition." However, the coalition reassured that the parade was not gone for good, and as the community's Labor Day celebrations continue to evolve, the parade would eventually make a comeback.
